The
multihulls fleet of the “Challenge Mondial Assistance” is
arriving
At
BLURimini 2003 the multihulls are landing. The Marina di
Rimini has been chosen as final destination
for the next edition of the “Challenge
Mondial Assistence”, famous oceanic race
in one lap, with crew, open to the multihulls
60 feet long, valid also for the skippers world
championship (FICO).
Route: the departure
(as in the previous 2001 edition) will be from Cherbourg on
May the 11th with arrival in Rimini between the 20th and the
24th of May in occasion of the opening
of the 5th edition of Blurimini. The route is of about 2850
miles with a first buoy in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean
by the island of Sao Miguel (Portuguese’s Azzorre), then
the crossing of the straits of Gibraltar, a long navigation
across the Mediterranean and the Adriatic and a final rush
to Rimini. On the 24th just in front of the Marina the multihulls
will make a spectacular race-show for the joy of all the people
keen on sailing that will come from all over Italy to admire
these ‘sea monsters’.
The multihulls fleet: at the moment there are already 18 boats
in for the competition , but is possible that the list of the
participants will increase. From Cherbourg some of the most
famous multihulls and trimarans with on board world-famous
skippers coming from France, Italy, Great Britain, Belgium,
Canada, etc. etc. as: Franck Cammas (Groupama), Alain Gautier
(Foncia), Jean-Luc Nélias (Belgacom), Jean Le Cam (Bonduelle),
Loick Peyron (Fujifilm), Lalou Roucayrol (Banque Populaire),
Karine Fauconnier (Sergio Tacchini), Marc Guillemot Biscuits
(La Trinitaine), Bertrand de Broc (Banque Covéfi), Thomas
Coville (Sodebo), Michel Desjoyeaux (Géant), Frédéric
le Peutrec (Bayer), Lionel Lemonchois (Gitana X), Philippe
Monnet (Sopra Group); still uncertain is the presence of Giovanni
Soldini and his Trimaran TIM.
A
mediatic success: the balance made by the shipping company
at the end of the first edition is absolutely positive.
The Challenge Mondial Assistence has earned a great success
of public and most of all, a world-wide mediatic impact
with the presence of journalists and televisions from all
continents. “It is an operation of great importance – says
Giorgio Benvenuti- a race that will bring to our coast
and to Rimini a visibility and a return of image that has
no equal. BLURimini 2003 will become the ideal container
for the Gala events of the skippers with international
guests, parties for those who are following the race, the
sponsor (each multihull will have 100 international guests
of high level) and many other initiatives all connected
with the nautical world.
